Animal prints have been huge this year but this dress works them with a contemporary twist. The neutral colour combination is stylish and sophisticated and looks great with blond, brown and dark hair colours.
The delicate lace edging on this strappy ruffle frill dress gives it a lingerie inspired feel which is so on trend this summer. This dress is a great combination of sexy and romantic.
This beaded one shoulder dress is just pure glamour. It has a definite vintage feel about it with its dramatic draped tulip skirt and bead embellished shoulder. The contrasting black belt defines the waist contributing to its feminine hour glass shape. This party dress certainly has the wow factor.

Strapless and strappy dresses have always been popular choices as party dresses but lately one of the most flattering and fresh styles of party dress is the asymmetrical style. This dress goes against many of our desires to look completely symmetrical but the one shouldered look is incredibly flattering and great alternative for those who don’t like wearing strapless party dresses. There are also a variety of other asymmetrical styles of dress, some of which use embellishment to give asymmetrical detail on the front of the dress, others which have an asymmetrical hem.
This trend has been bubbling away for quite a few seasons now but this summer has exploded into a huge trend with ruffled, draped and little black party dresses all featuring the one shouldered look. The celebrities have also been working this look on the red carpet as they already know all about how sensual and sexy revealing one shoulder can look. The draped styles have a definite feel of Greek Goddess about them, they elegant and perfect for a party. Other variations on this look include dresses with one long sleeve and dresses with one strap that crosses right across the chest.
The one shouldered dress trend is particularly good if you have great shoulders that you would like to show off. It also works well for wide shoulders as it cuts across the chest diagonally making it look narrower.
This Coral One Shoulder Dress by Miss Selfridge is the perfect colour for a party on a hot summer evening. It looks amazing with a sun tan and is right up to date with the ruffle which runs diagonally across the body.

This One Shoulder Tulip Skirt Dress by Lipsy has a beautiful draped design and gorgeous coloured satin fabric that fits in perfectly with this summers trend for luxe neutrals.
This One Shoulder Print Dress by Lipsy is a great party dress option for Ibiza party peoole or anyone heading somewhere hot. Its bold print makes it slightly less dressy than a black party dress but just as, if not more eye catching and perfect for keeping cool in the heat.
This Asymmetric Gathered Corset Dress is the ultimate bodycon party dress with an asymmetric neckline and hem that creates the illusion of a longline and lengthens the body.
Accessorising the asymmetrical party dress
As with any dress that has an unusual neckline, it can be difficult to find the right necklace to go with it. Look for a simple pendant style of necklace where the pendant hangs about an inch above the neckline of the dress. For higher necked asymmetrical dresses it would probably be best to avoid a necklace all together and instead opt for a pair of long earrings which mirror the line of the dress. A clutch bag and heels or wedges are the only other accessories that you will need to complete your party outfit.

Just as enjoyable as a party itself is the getting ready and choosing which party dress to wear. One of the big decisions this season for any parties that you attend will be whether to opt for a long or short party dress. Both are very much on trend and both have lots going for them. Which one you decide to wear will depend on your own taste and the party that you are going to. For those of us who are impulsive, it will also depend on which dress catches are eye when we do our shopping. Everyone perception of what is a long party dress and what is a short party dress will differ but for the purpose of this post long dresses will include anything below knee length and short dresses, knee length and above.
Long Party Dresses
Boohoo Chelsea Butterfly Maxi Dress
Goddiva Embellished Maxi Dress
Rare Fashion Tassel Maxi Dress
The ultimate long party dress for this summer has to be the maxi dress which has been seen in various guises throughout the season. From formal styles in black, satin or chiffon to more causal printed maxi dresses with bold and bright patterns or pretty vintage style florals, there are plenty of maxi dresses to choose from. But long party dresses also include those with three quarter(or mid calf) length skirts which are particularly suitable for daytime parties and occasions such as weddings and racedays. These dresses look great with either flared a line skirts which look amazing on ladies with larger hips or straight pencil style skirts which look stunning on slim ladies and those with hour glass shapes, particularly when accessorised with a belt.
The beauty of long party dresses is that they are suitable for more formal occasions, they are great for those who are a little self conscious of their body and they are incredibly stylish and subtly sexy without showing too much off. The strappy and fitted top of most maxi dresses help to balance the flowing skirt and show a bit of your body shape and the empire line is particularly flattering for those who want to cover a round tummy.
Short Party Dresses
Pixie Lott Backless Baby Doll Dress At Lipsy
Motel Linda Hibiscus Palm Dress
Little Mistress Embellished Ruffle V Neck Dress
Short party dresses are ideal for party animals who want to party all night. They are also great for hot balmy summer evenings when you want to keep as cool as possible. If you have amazing legs then a short party dress worn with killer heels is probably the best way to show them off. Short party dresses can range from cute baby doll dresses (also great for covering round tummies) with frilly details to vampy body con dresses, sequin or embellished dresses and the ubiquitous classic LBD. The trick to looking really stylish in a short party dress is to balance the hemline with the neckline. So if you are looking for a super mini dress opt for a higher neckline which will avoid it looking too much.
The trend for maxi dresses has been bubbling under the surface for a number of seasons now but this season it seems to have really gone full throttle. Perhaps it is because of the beautiful hot summer that we are having, perhaps it is because so many celebrities have been wearing them and showing us just how amazing they can look or perhaps we are just catching on to what a great style of women’s dress they are. If you go out this summer, you are bound to see countless girls working their maxi dresses to the maximum with strappy sandals, wedge heels and plenty of accessories. There is definitely a case of maxi dress mania this summer with a whole range of styles available from pretty florals to bold tribal prints, classic neutrals and the latest way to wear the maxi dress in jersey. Maxi dresses also make great party dresses with the addition of some great heels, a clutch bag and some sparkly jewellery. You can achieve a range of party looks from casual glamour to elegant chic, really dressy and even formal or black tie.
You may have thought to yourself that you can’t wear maxi dresses (a common misconception) but there really is a maxi dress for everyone and all you need to do is make sure that you find the right one. Maxi dresses are particularly good for ladies who prefer to keep their stomach or hips, thighs and legs covered up. They create a smooth and elegant silhouette without showing too much of what is underneath, yet they are fitted at the top giving some shape allowing you to show off the narrowest part of your torso which is often just under the bust. For those that do have a great waist that they would like to show off this can be achieved by adding a belt or wearing a jersey t shirt style maxi dress. Those with a bigger bust may struggle with the strappy nature of most maxi dresses but their are two possible routes that you can take. You can look for a maxi dress with short sleeves or you can layer a vest top underneath. For gorgeous look for your party dress you could even look for a sparkly or lacy vests top to wear underneath.
Some people avoid maxi dresses because they do not like to show off their arms but there are maxi dresses with sleeves available and you could also add a cropped cardigan, shrug or bolero which will not affect the line and flow of your maxi dress. Maxi dresses can be slightly tricky for petite ladies, but don’t avoid them all together. Look for maxi dresses in petite ranges to ensure that the skirts are not too long and trip you up. You should also look for dresses with skirts that are not too full as these can be a little over powering for short people. Plain colours or small scale prints will also look best on petite ladies. If you are tall you can pretty much take your pick of maxi dresses styles although you may want to shop around to ensure that it is long enough for maximum glamour.
Little Mistress have some great maxi style party dresses at great prices. They are also offering an additional 10% off for anyone setting up a new account. Choose from one of these gorgeous styles or visit their site for more great party dresses.

Prom season is almost upon us and for those lucky enough to be attending a prom, it is time to start putting some thought into the all important decision on which of the many prom dresses out there to wear?
Another American cultural import, a prom is usually held to celebrate the final year of school but these days there are also proms celebrating other important milestones like end of sixth form, college or university. A prom is traditionally a formal event for American high school students and in UK proms can also be known as Leavers’ Ball or parties. Less formal alternatives are known as a leavers do and in Ireland they are called Debs which comes from the the French word word Débutante. Of course the word itself conjures up the aristocratic beginnings of the word where a young lady from a family with status reached the age of maturity, and as a new adult, is introduced to society at a formal presentation known as her “début”.
Modern Débutante Balls are nowadays not quite so traditional, and often held in aid of charity, and more about having fun and getting dressed up rather finding the right blood line to marry into.
When choosing which prom or party dress to wear to a prom or ball, it is advisable to check on the dress code and look at what sort of prom dresses attendees have worn in previous years. Traditionally ball dresses, evening dresses or prom dresses and gowns are worn but it really does depend on the occasion and sometimes less formal party dresses or shorter cocktail dresses are considered acceptable. Formal prom dresses are usually floor length gowns or mid length dresses and often feature luxurious fabrics, embellishment or details such as dresses with lace.
Designer Prom Dresses
If you choose to get a designer prom dress, it is a great investment. Once you have been to your prom, it will last for many years to come or you can sell it as second hand so that someone else can enjoy wearing it to their prom. Alberta Ferretti is particularly known for her beautiful evening wear. This goddess like draped dress for her young and trendy label Philosophy Di Alberta Ferretti would make the perfect prom dress.
Maxi Prom Dresses
A formal style of a maxi dress is a flattering, on trend and cost effective dress to wear to a prom and totally on trend for this season. There are plenty of styles of maxi dress to choose from with the like of Goddiva having some great affordable options to choose from including this glamorous shimmering foil dress with halterneck top.
Traditional Prom Dresses
Traditional prom dresses are usually strapless and fitted at the top flaring out to a long full length skirt or mid length skirt from the waist. Some times they have thin shoulder straps, net under skirts, sashes or corsage detail. Debenhams have a range of beautiful traditional prom dresses in fabrics like organza and taffeta like this gold rose corsage dress.
Cocktail Prom Dresses
For a slightly less formal prom or ball a shorter party or cocktail dress is a great option. Detail and features like draping, beading and embellishment will help to make a dress that little bit more special than an average party dress but not quite as dressy as a formal ball gown. Lipsy have an amazing selection of stunning cocktail dresses, we love this one shoulder pleated satin dress.
Cheap Prom Dresses
If you are on a budget but don’t want to compromise on style you can often get great designer dresses by shopping online or at high street shops instead of the specialist prom dress retailers. You could also try shopping the sales for some great bargains. Boohoo.com have some great dresses at great prices that could be worn to a prom or leavers ball. We love the detailing on this beaded maxi dress.

A wedding is something of a big deal for the bride and groom, as well as family and friends. Not only is the beginning of the new life together but a great chance to celebrate with everyone together on the same day in the same place. Most weddings take a lot of planning and cost quite a lot of money, but if planned well they will be really happy and memorable for all involved. For the bride, one of the biggest considerations is what she will wear. Typically brides wear a long white dress but a shorter style or different colour are also possibilities. The bride should choose something that suits her and the wedding she has planned perhaps a classic style or a more trendy and fashionable look, depending on her own personal style.
Many of the wedding dress styles for the season are fairly simple with clean lines but that does not mean that you can’t have a frothy, frilly dress if that is what you want. A wedding is not really about today or tomorrow, it is about the rest of your lives together. Wearing the dress that you have always dreamt of will help to make your dream wedding. For wedding dresses to feel right they should be comfortable to wear. If you are not completely comfortable, you will not be able to enjoy your big day as much as you should. If you just can’t walk in high heels then perhaps opt for a really small heel instead. Remember that walking down the aisle will seem like a trek if you can hardly walk in your chosen shoes.
This Grecian draped wedding dress by Marks and Spencer’s is simple but incredibly elegant. It is perfect for those on a budget but still want that dream wedding.
This jacquard wedding dress and bolero set is a great alternative to a full length gown and works perfectly for low key registry office wedding.
This ivory bead embellished ball gown by debut at Debenhams is the classic fairy tale wedding dress with a simple fitted bodice and full skirt.
This floral embellished ball gown by Debut at Debenhams is about as simple as it gets but is also equally stunning and glamorous. The empire line is really flattering and suits almost every body shape.
Once you have picked out your dream wedding dress, there is still so much more to think about. There are the shoes, the underwear, the head dress, the hair, the make up and possibly other accessories. It can all seem quite daunting and you you will probably worry whether it will all look perfect together. The answer is simple, go with what feels right for you. check out magazines, websites and shops for ideas but it is really all about what will suit your dress, your personality and the day you want to create. Try thinking about the overall look that you are trying to create. Perhaps you want a natural look with a simple dress, hair down and minimal make up. You may want the complete opposite with everything as big and bold as possibles. There is no right or wrong for your wedding day, you can do whatever you like.
