Coachella Style – Party Clothes For Summer Festivals
Summer festivals are a bit like one big long party and they definitely need a very specific type of party clothes. If you are lucky enough to have tickets to any of the big festivals (or smaller more intimate ones) this summer, then you should put in some careful thought about what you will be wearing. With the Coachella festival in the US already over, you can always check out the street style pictures for inspiration and to see which festival fashion is going to be big news this year.
And with this weekend marking the start of the summer festival season with the fist event of the summer BBC radio one’s big weekend in Carlisle, its a great introduction to what people are wearing this for summer festival fashion especially as its going GaGA crazy this year, you can see the whole event live streamed here.
If you are going to a festival, despite being all excited about the whole adventure, you will need to consider the practicalities of festival going, mainly the weather. If it is hot you will need to dress to keep cool and keep the sun off you, but if it is wet you will need to be prepared for a lot of mud. Festivals are a great place to show off your individuality and pretty much anything goes as long as you will feel comfortable wearing it.
Whatever you choose to wear to a festival, it should not be something that you would be really upset about ruining. Save your expensive designer clothes for another day and consider investing in jumpsuits, cheap maxi dresses or beach dresses that can be worn with either boots or sandals depending on the weather. Denim shorts are also a good choice for festivals if the weather is hot but are also a practical choice with a pair of hunter wellies if the ground is particularly muddy.
At Coachella this year some of the key looks included seventies inspired floral maxi dresses worn with floppy hats, the lace dress (spotted on Katy Perry, Alexa Chung and Whitney Port), asymmetrical hemmed dresses and loose fitting or cropped t shirts. Although some of these looks seem quite casual, they can be coverted to festival party clothes with just a few simple accessories. Bold and bright prints were also popular with anything from a leopard print dress to abstract tribal print or tie dye fitting the bill perfectly.
Hair flowers, tribal jewellery, hats, headbands, belts, socks and fringed bags were everywhere. Just one or two carefully chosen accessories can transform cheap maxi dresses into something amazing or a beach dresses into a fabulous festival outfit. Sun hats are also particularly useful for protecting yourself from the sun. Don’t forget some shades to complete the rock and roll look and keep the sun out of your eyes so that you can see your favourite band.
Here are some of my picks of the best festival fashion out there from cheap maxi dresses to beach dresses and fabulous fun accessories.
