Studio 54 was all about flamboyance, hedonism and opulence with clothes that sparkled right across the dance floor.  Studio 54 which was originally  a theatre in New York, then a radio and television studio before being opened as a discotheque in 1977. It eventually closed in 1986 but not until it had seen many of the celebrities of the time strutting their stuff on the dance floor. Among the cool crowd that frequented Studio 54 were Andy Warhol, Liza Minnelli, Mick and Bianca Jagger. It was also associated with some of the fashion names that are still very well known today including Calvin Klein and Halston.

In its heyday, the nightclub became famous as being the place to be seen with the “movers and shakers” you know you had arrived when you were invited to the nightclub and for that reason it became even more popular especially with the VIPs of the day. during its short life as a club it became arguably the best known nightclub in the the world in the late seventies and credited with being instrumental in the rise of disco music and the culture that surrounded it.

In terms of fashion and style Studio 54 was definitely the place to be in the late seventies and Studio 54 style has become synonymous with the sparkly maxi dresses and sequined outfits of the time. Apart from the eye catching party dresses, Studio 54 style included seriously big and fluffy hair and lots of makeup.
